PartnersBe Web Aware is a public education initiative to raise awareness of online safety issues and to support parents in effectively managing Internet use in the home. The national coalition of Canadian organizations supporting the Be Web Aware initiative is committed to empowering parents with information and practical resources so they can teach their children to be Web savvy. It's all part of helping young Canadians to benefit from the opportunities of the Internet while minimizing potential risks. Steering Committee Media Awareness Network (MNet) is a Canadian not-for-profit centre of expertise and excellence in media education and Web literacy. MNet strives to support media education in Canadian schools, homes and communities to ensure children and youth possess the necessary critical thinking skills and tools to understand and actively engage with media. Through the delivery of bilingual services, resources and its content-rich Web site, MNet's helps children and youth develop an informed and critical understanding of the nature of the media, the techniques used in creating media products, and the media's role and influence within society. MNet works in partnership with education, community, government and industry partners to raise awareness of media literacy.
